Is one day enough for Monteverde?

One full day works if you combine a guided morning walk with a night walk in the evening. Two days lets you spend a morning birding, a second morning in a different reserve, and still fit an evening walk.

Do I need a guide to visit the reserves?

You can walk the trails alone, but a naturalist guide changes how much you actually see: scopes, trained ears and current knowledge of nests and fruiting trees are what turn a quiet walk into sightings.

Are reserve entrance fees included in a Nasua tour?

You choose. Every tour can be quoted with reserve admission included (guide + admission + 13% tax) or as guided service only, with admission purchased separately. Transportation from your hotel in Monteverde can be arranged on request.

Birdwatching, natural history or night walk?

All three walk cloud-forest trails, but they answer different questions.

Birdwatching

Private, 6:10 am, about 5 hours. Built around finding and scoping birds while activity peaks.

If you want depth rather than a choice, the private full-day tour spends about nine hours across both main reserves, and private guided tours let you set the start time and length yourself.

Curi-Cancha, the Cloud Forest Reserve or Santa Elena?

Nasua tours run in Curi-Cancha Reserve, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and — for night walks — the Monteverde Wildlife Refuge. Oscar recommends the reserve that fits your goals for the day, and you are welcome to state a preference when you send your request. The Santa Elena Reserve is a further option in the area; ask about it directly rather than assuming it is part of a standard itinerary.

In every case the entrance ticket is paid separately from the guiding service, so budget for both.

Morning or evening?

Morning

Birds are most active and vocal soon after first light, and trails are quieter. This is why birding starts at 6:10 am and the full day at 6:00 am.

Evening

At dusk the forest hands over: diurnal animals settle, nocturnal ones emerge. The 5:30 pm night walk is a different cast of species, not a repeat.

A practical single-day plan combines both — a guided walk in the morning and a night walk the same evening.

Private or shared?

Birdwatching, the full-day tour and custom guided tours are private only. The nature tour and the night walk can be booked either privately or as a shared departure. Private means the pace, the stops and the level of explanation follow only your group — worth it with children, with photographers, or when you are chasing specific species.

What to bring

Waterproof jacket — Monteverde is a cloud forest, and mist or drizzle is normal
Hiking shoes with grip for damp, uneven trails
A fully charged camera or phone
Water, and layers: it is cooler and windier than the coast
